Kaze is a traditional Japanese teahouse that appears from a distance as an oddly irregular structure, which upon closer inspection, is the remains of a traditional Japanese teahouse, frozen at the moment of its disintegration. Exploring the interior, one finds the formal alcoves to be completely intact, unharmed and beautifully polished. Further investigation reveals the building as a memorial though scattered items, projections and images.
Occasional tea ceremonies, and other impromptu performances and recorded audio insertions will be programmed.
At night, through simple lighting and projections, the installation provides a delicate interplay of light, color and shadow.
